Achillea ageratifolia
菊科
Asteraceae

a, A. ageratifolia; b, A. clavennae; c, A. rupestris; d, A. tomentosa;

Iliad 11. 804-848

‘πῶς τὰρ ἔοι τάδε ἔργα; τί ῥέξομεν Εὐρύπυλ᾽ ἥρως;
(Iliad 11.822-48)

Wise Eurypylus then said in answer to Patroclus:
“Lord Patroclus, there’s no longer anything
can save Achaeans, who’ll fall back to their black ships.
All those who were our finest fighters
are lying by the ships, hurt or wounded
at Trojan hands, whose strength keeps growing.
But take me safely back to my black ship,
cut the arrow from my thigh, and with warm water
wash away the black blood there, then rub on
fine soothing medication
, whose use, they say,
Achilles taught you, an art he learned
from Cheiron, most righteous of the Centaurs.
Of our healers, Podalerius and Machaon,
one, I believe, lies wounded in our huts,
himself requiring some worthy healer,
the other’s out there on the plains, holding off
the fighting spirit of the Trojans.”
Menoetius’ fine son then said to Eurypylus:
“How can you get this cure? What can we do,
noble Eurypylus? I’m on my way
to inform warlike Achilles of the news
which Geranian Nestor, Achaea’s guardian,
asked me to report. But I won’t leave you
in such suffering.”
                                  When Patroclus had finished,
he put his arm around Eurypylus’ chest, then took
that shepherd of his people to his hut.
Seeing them,
an aide put down some ox hides. Settling him there,
with a knife Patroclus cut out the arrow, razor sharp,
from his thigh, and washed the blood off with warm water.
He put some bitter root onto his hands and rubbed it in,
something to relieve the hurt, remove all pain.
The wound then dried, and blood stopped flowing.
  Iliad 11. 846行提到的「根」,可能是治傷草(woundwort) 的根,中文翻譯有幾種可能:藥用水蘇、療傷絨毛花、聚合草、西門肺草等。此用法還出現在Iliad 16.28; Iliad 4.190; Iliad 15.394;
(Moly): http://homegplant.blogspot.tw/2014/09/51-moly.html

54 Larkspur

54 Larkspur
Consolida ajacis (其他名稱: Consolida ambigua, Delphinium ajacis, Delphinium ambiguum, doubtful knight's spur, rocket larkspur)
Larkspur
Delphinium ajacis
Ranunculaceae
54

Greek : Hyakinthos
Species : Delphinium ajacis
Description : A late spring, early summer flowering perennial with tall stems of blue flowers.
Sacred to : Apollon (the plant was probably used in the god's Hyakinthia festival held near Sparta in early summer)
Myth 1 : Metamorphosis Hyakinthos. Hyakinthos was a handsome, young Spartan prince loved by the gods Apollon and Zephyros. Zephyros grew jealous and one day when Apollon was playing quoits with the boy he caught up the disc with his windy breath and struck him in the head. As Hyakinthos lay dying, Apollon caused the larkspur or iris flower to spring forth from his blood, inscribing it with the Greek words "ai ai", alas, alas. (Sources: Ovid, Philostratus, Pausanias, et al)
Myth 2 : Death of Aias. Aias (or Ajax) was a Greek hero of the Trojan war. After the armour of Akhilleus was awarded to Odysseus he went mad and threw himself upon his own sword. The larkspur flower sprang from his blood, its petals inscribed with the "ai" of his name. (Source: Ovid)
Myth 3 : Bouquet of Persephone. The goddess Persephone and her companion Nymphs were gathering rose, crocus, violet, iris, lily and larkspur blooms in a springtime meadow when she was abducted by the god Haides. (Source: Homeric Hymns)
(NB The flower now called the hyacinth is not the same as the Greek hyakinthos. Rather it is identified with the larkspur. In the image right - click on thumbnail - , the letters AI are typed beside the letter shapes on the central petal.)

Delphinium ajacis

53 Willows (Salix amplexicaulis)

A well-known ornamental example is the weeping willow (Salix × sepulcralis)

But once your ship
crosses flowing Oceanus, drag it ashore
at Persephone’s groves, on the level beach,
where tall poplars grow, willows shed their fruit,
right beside deep swirling Oceanus.11
Then you must go to Hades’ murky home.
There Periphlegethon and Cocytus,
a stream which branches off the river Styx,
flow into Acheron. There’s a boulder
where these two foaming rivers meet. Go there,
heroic man, and follow my instructions—
move close and dig a hole there two feet square.
Pour libations to the dead around it,
first with milk and honey, next sweet wine,
and then a third with water.

水柳

Salix warburgii

Salix kusanoi

http://zh.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E6%B0%B4%E7%A4%BE%E6%9F%B3
